El Pastelillo Voloa in Cidra

El Pastelillo Volao

El Pastelillo Volao in CidraWhile visiting Cidra the other week, we were told by several people that we had to try the ‘El Pastelillo Volao’, in fact we were told that

“if you visit Cidra and do not try the El Pastelillo Volao, then you have not visited Cidra”

So of course we had to find out more about Cidra’s famous food.

El Pastelillo Volao in CidraThe El Pastelillo Volao dates back to the early 1950’s when Dońa Celis created a uniquely shaped meat & potato filled pastry at her family cafeteria, Mi Sitio Familiar.

This unique fan shaped, savory pastry, has come to be recognized as the dish of Cidra.

As you can see the El Pastelillo Volao has a very unique shape, almost fan like thin pastry with a ball of meat & potato filling at one end. Being fried, it’s not the healthiest of snacks, but it sure is tasty and filling.

The Pastelillo Volao, is so popular in Cidra that the town even hosts an annual El Pastelillo Volao Festival, where the fried snack is the star attraction.

So, if you are ever in the Cidra area, remember “if you do not try the El Pastelillo Volao, then you have not visited Cidra”

Enjoy…..
